about

This came from a 4-track recording of multi tracked basses in 1989. I guess that was the very early spark for the BP project. About 15 years ago my friend Simon Clark asked if he could play with the track, remixing he added some perc samples and a beautiful electric piano solo. I’d been wanting to expand on what Simon had done for years. I replaced the samples with drums (Jake Reed) and hand percussion (Greg Ellis) and had Bill Barrett improvise over part of it. I took Bills parts and wove them together. One of the harmonica parts sounded brass-like so Juan Chaves doubled the part on trumpet. Mish added some vocalizations at the end. The track embodies fun movement. Of course respectful nod to African bassist Bakithi Kumalo.

about

Richard Ford Los Angeles, California

Richard Ford, turned from a career as a pro bass player to become a music editor for feature film. For the last 20 years he’s been working with some of Hollywood’s great film makers, on landmark films. But there has always been an itch to get the basses out of the closet and create some music of his own.
With no commercial aspirations this is a personal, unashamedly, self indulgent project.
